Sharpening

imageIn active use blades become blunt and the tool begins to lose its cutting capacity. When cutting marks are no longer tidy and strands and bark start to stuck on the blade it is time to sharpen the cutting tool. The easiest way to sharpen a cutting tool is to use a diamond file. Working with sharp garden tools benefits both the user of the tool and the object of the gardening: sharp tools function with less effort and clean cuts promote faster plant healing.

Axe sharpening can easily be done by an axe and knife sharpener. Place the sharpener on a flat surface, put the blade in the groove and move it to and fro few times while pressing down gently. Ceramic grinding stones will make the blade sharp again.
