Benefit:
Promotes mastery of color as it encourages a gift exchange between student and primary care giver.
Activity:
Each student will:
- Assist teacher (as appropriate, or teacher may prep hearts for use before class) to cut out hearts from cardboard with FISKARS All-Purpose Scissors.
- Trace cardboard heart onto selected piece of wrapping paper and chosen color of construction paper. Use Fiskars Paper Edgers Pinking to cut out heart that is larger than the cardboard one. Glue construction paper heart onto cardboard heart. Use FISKARS Edgers Pinking to cut out a wrapping paper heart that is smaller than the construction paper. Glue wrapping paper heart onto construction paper one.
- Have teacher drill two holes in heart arches. Thread red yarn through hole. Knot and tie bow for hanging on wall.
- Use FISKARS Jumbo Paintbrush to paint hand white. Use painted hand as a stamp to create imprint of hand on center of wrapping paper heart. Allow to dry. Once dry, print name and date in center of hand in red and green markers.
- Braid 5" strands of red, white and green yarn. Knot ends. Tie braid into bow. Mount bow on bottom of heart.
Ideas:
Distinguish between primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) secondary colors (mixture of two primary colors: green, purple and orange) and intermediate (mixture of a primary and secondary color: blue-violet and yellow-green) colors.
Create a Science Lab out mixing secondary and intermediate colors. Paint color wheels or rainbows as a class from mixed colors.
Research as a class what makes the colors white and black unique in art.
Send wall art home for gift to primary care giver from student for the holidays.
