He showed up with the other volunteers at the trail clearing party. The orange shirt and black climbing pants should have been a dead giveaway, but then again he didn't look that much different than the other folks. When everyone grabbed for their tools, he pulled the sleek, black, lopper from his daypack and went to work. His movements were cat-like. He pruned effortlessly, barely breaking a sweat, first at ground level, careful not to leave any pungee sticks and then overhead, clearing out some widow makers. This went on for hours. The rest of the group was visibly tired and he pushed ahead. Just one more mile. It didn't seem fair. He wasn't the youngest guy out there. And later that night by the light of the fire, when the young bucks complained of sore backs and pecs, he just smiled and took another sip of coffee.
