I've been using paper flowers more and more in my crafting and home décor projects and am finding new ways to display them in my home. Using the Fiskars® Shapexpress2™ Knife and Template sets allows you to create an eye-catching paper bouquet that can be used in a unique way to decorate your space. Keep reading to learn how!
Floral Embellished Paper Maché Letters
Step 1: Select your inspirational word. I wanted to create a floral project that was different than a traditional bouquet, so I decide to choose paper mache letters to act as a base for my paper flowers. I wanted to select a word that I could set up in my craft room to keep me inspired while making. What better choice than "create!" After selecting my word, I went to my craft store and purchased the paper maché letters.
Step 2: Paint the paper mache letters. To make your store-bought paper mache letters your own, start by painting them a coordinating color that will match other home décor items you have, or pop in a room that could use some extra embellishment. You may need to apply several coats for an even coverage and allow to thoroughly dry.
Step 3: Make the paper flowers. Using the Fiskars® Shapexpress2™ Knife and templates, create your own bouquet of paper flowers, using colors that coordinate with your theme. Using the templates to cut different sizes and shapes will enable you to create a large variety of flowers. See the different kinds of flowers I created below, and follow along for the step-by-step tutorial.
Make the Triangle Flower Buds
Step 1: Cut the shapes. First, use the Fiskars® Shapexpress2™ Triangle Template to cut 6 small triangles.
Step 2: Create the petals. Next, snip into each triangle using the Fiskars® Total Control Non-Stick Precision Snips, stopping at the center of each shape. Overlap the two cut sides of the triangles to form a rounded paper petal and hot glue in place.
Step 3: Glue the petals together. Glue the folded triangles to one another to form a flower bud shape. Make sure there is a hole in the center where the petals join to each other.
Step 4: Cut the stamen. Once you have your petals created, you can move onto creating the center of the flower bud. Use the Fiskars® Shapexpress2™ knife and rectangle template to cut a rectangle shape from paper. Cut the rectangle in half using the same snips, and cut along the edges of each half to create two comb shapes.
Step 5: Finish the stamen. Cut a piece of floral stem wire and apply a dot of hot glue to the end. Place the end of one paper 'comb' on the glue and start to wrap the comb around the top of the wire, applying more glue to hold it in place as you do so. When you get to the end, continue with the second paper 'comb'.
Step 6: Add the stamen to the flower. Insert the floral stem wire through the hole in the flower bud and apply glue to the bottom of the stamen to hold it in place.
Step 7: Finish the flower. To finish the flower, add a sepal or two to the bottom of the bud. Use the knife and triangle template to cut two triangles from green paper. Repeat step 4 with the sepals and glue to the bottom of the flower bud.
Make the Hexagon Flower Buds
Step 1: Cut the shapes. Using the same knife with the hexagon template, cut two smaller hexagons and two larger hexagons.
Step 2: Create the petals. Snip into one corner of each hexagon, stopping at the center of the shapes. Overlap the two cut edges of each hexagon like we did in Step 2 above and glue in place to create a petal. Repeat as many times as you'd like until the desired petal amount is achieved.
Step 3: Forming the flower. Layer the petals inside one another, with the larger petals on the outside and the smaller petals in the center. Glue each layer in place. Add a gold jewel embellishment to the center.
Step 4: Add the leaves. Cut two triangles using the triangle template and form the leaves as with the sepals before. Glue the leaves to the bottom of the flower.
Make the Circle Rose Flowers
Step 1: Cut the shapes. First, use the same knife and the circle template to cut a circle, which will turn into a rose petal.
Step 2: Make a spiral. Use the same snips as before to cut the circle into a spiral shape, starting at the outside edge of the circle and working in towards the center.
Step 3: Create the flower. Fold over the outside end of the spiral and wind up it up, twisting it around itself. Apply dots of glue as you wind it towards the center to hold it in place. When you reach the end, glue the center of the spiral to the bottom of the flower for security.
Step 4: Add leaves. Make leaves as we did in step 4 above and glue to the bottom of the flower.
To finish, embellish your paper mache letters with all of the flowers you created. Use your paper bouquet to embellish your paper mache letters. Simply glue them in place on the letters to add dimension and gorgeous texture. To adhere the flower buds, make a small hole in the letter and pass the floral stem wire through the hole. Glue the bottom of the flower bud to the letter for added security. Once the flowers have been attached and the glue dried, display in your home or office for all to see!
