Make a Wooden Snowflake

Supplies:

Lengths of wood
Wood glue
Clamps
Pencil
Wood stain
Foam brush
Sanding block

  1. Gather your supplies. Begin by gathering your supplies. The most important element of this project is the wood you select. I had a few scrap pieces lying around, but you can purchase thin cuts of wood at any craft or hardware store.

  1. Saw the wood. Using your Fiskars® Tape Measure (16 ft.), mark your wood at the desired length. We used four lengths of wood cut to 24”. Place the Fiskars® Extra-fine Serrated Saw Blade (S) in the Fiskars® Heavy-duty Easy Change Detail Knife and saw the wood at the measured marks. Sand the ends of the wood lightly.

  1. Glue the wood. Measure the center point of each 24” piece of wood and mark with a pencil. Glue each of the pieces of wood together at the center point and hold together with a clamp. Fan the lengths of wood out evenly and follow the manufacturer's directions for drying/curing time.

  1. Cut the snowflake 'stems'. Using the Heavy-duty Easy Change Detail Knife, cut smaller lengths of wood to use as the snowflake 'stems'. We cut ours at a 45-degree angle. Just measure and mark a line with a pencil and saw. Sand the ends of the wood lightly.

  1. Glue the 'stems' to the snowflake. Glue the stems to the snowflake in a symmetrical pattern. Clamp the 'stems' in place and allow to cure.

  1. Drill hole for hanging. Using the Fiskars® DIY Precision Hand Drill, drill a hole through the top of one of the snowflake points.

  1. Paint or stain the snowflake. We stained our finished snowflake with a wood stain, but other options would be to use paint or to leave it bare. Allow the stain/paint to dry.

  1. Hang the snowflake. Once the stain is completely dry, cut a length of ribbon and thread it through the hole at the top of the snowflake. Now your wooden snowflake is ready to hang and be enjoyed all season long!
