DIY Back to School Paper Owls

No matter how old we get, when summer starts to come to an end we get that back-to-school feeling. Yanno, that nostalgia for wanting all the school supplies!
Since we won’t be heading back to school anytime soon and we’ve become the “old Uncles”...we wanted to create “wise-old” paper owls for our niece and nephew to kick off the start of a new school year!

DIY Back to School Paper Owls

Since we won’t be heading back to school anytime soon and we’ve become the “old Uncles”...we wanted to create “wise-old” paper owls for our niece and nephew to kick off the start of a new school year!

Our niece and nephew love to get crafty but need a little inspiration every now and then. They loved working on the notebooks we made together last year and think they’re going to love recreating these cutie hooties. These little ones may look intimidating, but they’re really just a handful of cut-out paper glued together. A perfect project for Fiskars Kid’s Scissors!

Materials:

  • Fiskars Safety-edge Blades
  • Colorful Cardstock
  • Craft Glue

How To:

Cut out 1.5’’ wide strips for body:
To get the straightest lines, draw out with a ruler first.

  • 1 - 8.5’’ strip the body
  • 2 - 4’’ strips for the wings
  • 2 - 5’’ strips for the belly

Fold and glue loops:

Reminiscent (for us old people) of paper chains. Fold and glue together the strips to create different shaped loops for the body, stomach and wings.

Cut out the face and feet:

  • Cut out a half circle for the head...if you want to get fancy cut out a swoop for the ears.
  • Cut out a thin rounded triangle for the beak.
  • Cut out a rounded triangle for the brow.
  • Cut out three different sized circles for the eyes.
  • Use a tiny scrap piece of white cardstock for a little “gleam” in their eye.
  • Cut out two half circles for feet.

Tip: Turn the paper instead of the scissors when cutting round edges. Don’t worry if your circles aren’t perfect, imperfections just add to the charm!

Glue together:

Glue all the facial features together. Once dry, glue the face & wings on top of the body and the feet to the bottom.

How cute are these little ones? They’re easily customizable for different age groups and are an impressive project with little materials! Our niece and nephew are going to love them!

We’re going to throw together a little craft kit with cardstock and Fiskars Kids Scissors, but we had to try them out first and surprisingly they do REALLY well...even with big adult hands!
