DIY Jewelry Holder Tutorial

I really like the bohemian trend and am always looking for subtle ways to add that element into my home décor. I think this DIY is the perfect project for me since I'm also a jewelry lover!

Another great element of this project is that these jewelry holders, while serving up function first and foremost, act as beautiful wall hangings, as well. The natural wood mixed with the copper tacks and wire are a perfect backdrop to showcase your baubles, and because you can make this large or small depending on what base you choose, it can truly fit into any space.

Materials needed:

  • Branch or driftwood
  • Wire
  • Jewelry hooks

Five-step Bohemian Jewelry Holder

Step 1

Choose branch and cut.

Because I live in an area with abundant driftwood, I selected that as my jewelry holder base, but you can choose any kind of wooden base that is local to you. To select a tree branch from your own backyard, use a Fiskars® lopper to remove an appropriate branch from your tree.

When making this cut, be sure to select a branch that once trimmed won't leave a big, empty space in your tree. It's even better if you can gather this branch from a tree that is dying so the wood is drier. Trim any twigs or shoots from the branch you selected using a Fiskars® pruner and sand any ends if necessary.

Step 2

Mark placement for jewelry hooks.

Using a Fiskars® tape measure, measure and mark the jewelry hook placements along the length of the branch. Depending on the length of the branch you selected, leave space at least a few inches on either end to allow room for the wire for hanging products.

Step 3

Hammer the hooks.

Place a tack into a Fiskars® nail starter and hammer into the branch using a hammer at each marked point. Do not hammer all the way in. Allow for the tacks to stick out and serve as jewelry hooks. Allow about 3/8" of each tack to protrude.

Step 4

Add wire to the jewelry holder.

Use a Fiskars® needle-nose pliers to wrap one end of a length of copper wire around the branch. Use a Fiskars® wire cutter or the wire cutter or snips to trim the wire to the desired length for hanging. Wrap the other end of the wire around the opposite end of the branch and again trim if any extra wire remains.

Step 5

Hang on wall.

Hang a hook on the wall in the location where you want your jewelry holder to be. Nail a spot in the wall, using a nail starter to ensure a straight nail, and hang the jewelry holder. Create as many of these holders as you like to add decorations to your wall and add your jewelry. Fashion and function in one project!
